Project Introduction
‘The Butterfly Dream’ is a contemporary dance collaboration between Korea and Italy presented as part of the 2025 Kore·A·Round Culture Program. The project creates a performance that blends dance with cultural heritage by bringing together Ahn Ae-soon Company, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, and Fabbrica Europa Foundation, an institution that has led artistic innovation and international collaboration since 1994. For this project, leading Korean choreographer Ahn Ae-soon, along with Italian artists, Damiano Ottavio Bigi and Alessandra Paoletti, reinterpreted the theme “the moment where the boundary between dream and reality disappears” through dance. In Korea, a site-specific performance was presented at Nakseonjae Hall, a former royal residence of the Joseon Dynasty, allowing audiences to experience contemporary dance harmonized with cultural heritage. The Korean performances took place on October 30 and 31, and the project will expand to Italy in 2026. It will be reimagined in historically significant cultural heritage sites such as the Italy – Il MAGGIORE Centro Eventi of Verbania, Chiostro Grande e Complesso di Santa Maria Novella in Florence offering audiences a new experience in each location.
