Project Introduction
A Korea-Scotland Collaborative Theatre Workshop presented by <2025 Kore∙A∙Round Culture> was held this December. Founded in 2002, the Korean theatre company San has continued to portray everyday life through a warm and affirmative lens. Partnering with them is Wonder Fools, a Glasgow-based Scottish theatre company established in 2017, dedicated to expanding access to the arts for underrepresented communities. Through a year-long collaborative creation process, the two companies have completed a new music theatre work. Drawing on “Auld Lang Syne” and “Arirang,” the two countries’ iconic folk songs, the piece explores universal emotions of farewell, separation, and reunion.
<TETHER> unfolds stories spanning three generations from 1919 to 1979. It also features rich musical and choreographic collaborations, including Ganggangsullae and Ceilidh dance, and a musical flow that moves from Arirang to Loch Lomond and Auld Lang Syne. Through this multilayered staging, where tradition and contemporaneity intertwine, audiences are invited to experience universal human emotions of love and longing beyond language and borders.
The performance took place on December 18 at Jeongseon Culture & Arts Center.
