Project Introduction
Concert Installation 'CheopCheopSanMaek : Sound Mountain Ranges'(AT) is a new work co-created by WHATWHY ART (Korea) and Solistenensemble Kaleidoskop (Germany), bringing together Korean traditional instruments, Western strings, and electronics to form a multi-layered sonic space in a live performance.
Based on a joint artistic research project developed since 2023 under the theme of “post-colonial music,” the work engages with a trans-cultural approach. Here, difference is understood not as a problem but as a condition for artistic creation. Rather than pursuing fusion or cultural homogenization, it adopts a mode of coexistence. This approach moves beyond exoticization and appropriation, generating collective sonic formations shaped through listening, sensitivity, and structural equality.
Composer and electronic musician Konstantin Heuer joins the project, constructing a sound structure that combines microtonality, body-based performance practices, and electronics, while engaging in direct dialogue with contemporary ensemble practices.
Through this, the performance shares musical events that emerge in the here and now, along with a sense of liveness and spatiality, unfolding as a vast “mountain range of sound.”
