Project Introduction
The Vocal Space Project <"Nine lives" - Filetta> is an international artistic exchange project led by Liquid Sound, a collective collaborating across various genres based on traditional arts, and A Filetta, a traditional polyphonic music group from Corsica, France. Building on the achievements of the 2025 Korea-Japan-China Future Generation Arts Exchange and Liquid Sound’s continuous international experience across Europe and Asia—including Italy, France, and Hungary—the two groups will co-create a performance to be presented in September 2026 at the Rencontre de Chants Polyphoniques de Calvi festival in France and the PAMS Re:bound festival in Korea.
Centered on the human voice as the most primal instrument of resonance, the project explores how Pansori and Paghjella (Corsican traditional music)—both UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity—can present and allow audiences to experience a unique sense of space. The project facilitates the sharing of artistic worldviews and methodologies between traditional vocal groups of both nations, leading to collaborations that reinterpret and evolve traditional vocal music within a contemporary context. Rather than simply mixing sounds or arranging them in parallel, the creative process will focus on exchanging core musical languages such as vocalization techniques and sigimsae (ornamentation), concentrating on the deep vibrations the human instrument can produce beyond linguistic barriers.
"A Filetta," which refers to a fern with deep, strong roots symbolizing resilient vitality in the Corsican dialect, will collaborate with Korean traditional vocal styles such as Pansori and Seodo Minyo. Under the direction of Liquid Sound’s music director and producer, the Vocal Space Project <"Nine lives" - Filetta> will include a period of vocal workshops and methodological exchanges between artists in France, followed by performances at a local French festival and subsequent stages in Korea.
